RANGER
Introduction PDF Print E-mail

Ranger family of control devices provides to OMNIA a direct link with the plant field.

The standard models available cover a wide range of applications, and the modularity of the building blocks allows the production of customized models that match any special need, still keeping the prices pretty low.

A natural companion to OMNIA supervisor system, RANGER is not however limited to the role of being an arm to OMNIA brain. It has some brain by itself.

The user can actually download in RANGER memory a sequence of up to 32 K instructions, sufficient to implement a control program of respectable complexity, thus making out of RANGER a powerful PLC.

Features PDF Print E-mail

Since PVR objective is to complement PLC world with its OMNIA supervision program, RANGER was not conceived to compete with commercial PLCs, but to offer a specialized solution to applications where PLCs are not naturally suited.

RANGER comes in five models, sporting an I/O count from 22 to 58, and a standard set of 3 serial ports individually configurable as RS232 or RS485 at various baud rates.

R5 32 16 8 2

Specifications PDF Print E-mail

All RANGER models are based on MC 68HC11, an 8 bit microprocessor made by Motorola, running at 2 MHz addressing 32 K EPROM and 32 K RAM.

The electric characteristics of the I/O are the following.

Digital Input

The digital input section of RANGER is based on a modularity of 8. The digital inputs are electrically insulated from the field by optoisolators, and among them in groups of 4, thus for every 8 inputs two independent common terminals are available.

The inputs sink 7 mA at 24 V, behaving as positive logic. A LED near each input terminal shows the input state.

Digital Output

The digital outputs have a modularity of 8 with one common terminal for every 8 outputs.

Each output can sink 500 mA with positive logic.

Analog Input

Single ended, 12 bits resolution, obtained by an integrating dual slope A/D converter with a strong rejection (normal mode) of line noise, and a conversion time of 40 msec.

Input ranges: 0-5V,1-5V,0-20 mA, 4-20 mA jumper selectable.

Analog Output

Single ended, 8 bit resolution.

Output ranges: 0-5V,1-5V,0-20 mA, 4-20 mA jumper selectable.

Power supply requirements

Voltage: 24VDC (18..30), Current: 0.7 A ( needed to power the logic only. I/O current requirements depend from the number of active I/O present)
