KNOS
Introduction PDF Print E-mail

KNOS is a communication gateway for networks composed by industrial devices such as PLC, fire detectors, security systems and generally all devices which may be connected with a communication protocol.

KNOS main goal is to simplify the communication side of the SCADA system, both increasing performance and reducing protocol complexity.

Although KNOS has initially been designed as a partner for the OMNIA SCADA system, thanks to its open architecture it is also compatible with other systems, or it can also be used as a stand-alone gateway to allow heterogeneous devices to share information.

Features PDF Print E-mail
  • Multiplexing

Management of communication with heterogeneous devices using different protocols on the same node.

  • Bridging

Data exchange among multiple devices of different type, brand and model.

  • Routing

Lining together multiple KNOS nodes it is possible to create complex networks with configurable data paths, both device to device and device to SCADA.

  • Protocol to protocol conversion

All information coming in one specific protocol format can be translated to a different format. A PLC using Allen Bradley's DH-485 can share registers with a PLC using Omron's Sysway.

  • Hiding of communication and interfacing problems

As a consequence of protocol translation feature, the specific details of different protocols are not propagated to KNOS clients. For example, the SCADA system can talk to all devices using Modbus, while KNOS translate the messages in the native protocol.
